Frequently Asked Questions
About Form & Fiber
Form & Fiber is proudly based in Mabank, Texas, just southeast of Dallas. All of our products are designed, engineered, and manufactured locally, using regional materials and skilled Texas craftsmanship.
Yes. Form & Fiber is a Certified SBA Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and a Texas Historically Underutilized Business (HUB). We are also a women-owned and family-operated manufacturer, committed to supporting local industry and sustainable U.S. manufacturing.
Rooted in landscape architecture, we design and manufacture with a deep understanding of how products integrate into built environments. Our collections combine design integrity, material craftsmanship, and long-term durability, with every piece made in Texas using locally sourced materials whenever possible.
Products & Materials
We specialize in concrete, aluminum, steel, Corten steel, and thermally modified wood, chosen for their strength, durability, and aesthetic flexibility. Each material is carefully crafted for exterior performance and finished to withstand long-term exposure to the elements.
Absolutely. Many of our standard products can be customized in size, material, or finish, and we also undertake fully custom fabrications when project scope and timelines allow. Our team collaborates directly with designers to ensure precision and alignment with project intent.
Yes. Sustainability is central to our process. Over 98% of our concrete materials are sourced within 100 miles of production, and all metals are 100% recyclable and purchased from domestic U.S. suppliers. We also use thermally modified wood, a natural, chemical-free alternative with extended longevity and minimal environmental impact.
Finishes & Performance
Form & Fiber uses finishing processes tailored to each material for maximum durability and performance. Aluminum products undergo a five-stage pre-wash treatment before receiving a super-durable, exterior-rated powder coating for long-term protection and color retention. Steel products are pre-washed, then coated with a zinc-rich primer prior to the super-durable, exterior-rated powder coating, creating a dual-layer system that provides superior resistance to corrosion, fading, and wear in demanding outdoor environments.
Not exactly. While the term “weathering steel” is often used generically, it does not always refer to certified Corten material. Form & Fiber uses only Certified Corten steel, which is chemically distinct from standard carbon steel and is produced under the COR-TEN® trademark, meeting ASTM A606 Type 4 and ASTM A588 specifications. Some materials marketed as “weathering steel” are actually non-certified carbon steel that has been intentionally rusted to imitate true Corten; however, this imitation material will continue to corrode, leach, and deteriorate over time. Certified Corten steel, by contrast, forms a stable, protective patina and offers a life expectancy of 50+ years, providing long-term durability and performance.
Yes. Corten steel is available across many of our product lines and is valued for its ability to form a stable, protective patina that enhances both longevity and visual character. As a standard practice, Form & Fiber pre-weathers all Corten steel products to approximately 85%, allowing them to complete their natural oxidation process on-site based on local climatic conditions. Designers should take care not to place Corten steel directly on limestone or concrete surfaces, as some leaching may occur during the final stages of oxidation. Once fully oxidized, the Corten steel stabilizes, ceasing to rust or leach, and provides decades of durable performance.
Yes. Our integral color options allow designers to select tones that complement surrounding materials and landscape palettes while maintaining the natural depth and texture of concrete.
Installation & Maintenance
Most Form & Fiber products are designed for surface-mounting or gravity-set installation, depending on site conditions and design intent. Larger systems, such as Fused Planters, are fabricated with full bottoms and connecting sections featuring lowered, internal connecting walls for structural integrity and seamless assembly. Our Landscape Wall and Partition Wall systems are engineered with integrated base plates designed to anchor securely to concrete curbs, slabs, or footers. For all on-structure applications, Form & Fiber can provide waterproofing recommendations to assist installers in achieving proper system integration and long-term performance.
Minimal maintenance is required. Routine cleaning with mild soap and water is recommended. Thermally modified wood may naturally weather over time but can be refinished to maintain its original tone. Our powder-coated finishes are designed for long-term, low-maintenance performance.
